About this website
This website, tommitsoff.com, presents the books and work of Tom Mitsoff. This notice describes reader contact messages, book-news subscriptions and technical information associated with using the website.
Contact messages
The Contact form asks for your name, email address, subject and message. These details are emailed to the website administrator so Tom can respond. Sending a contact message does not subscribe you to book news. The form does not save message bodies as separate entries in the website database.
To limit repeated submissions, the form keeps a short-lived record based on a hashed IP address for one minute. Email services, security tools and backups may separately retain information associated with a message.
Book-news subscriptions
The general Book News form collects your email address and your agreement to receive release announcements, occasional excerpts and news about Tom’s novels. MailerLite processes these subscriptions and delivers the emails. New subscribers are asked to confirm by email; an existing active subscriber may join without another confirmation. Some individual book pages have separate book-specific signup forms. Those forms collect an email address and an optional first name and submit them to MailerLite with the selected book-specific group. These book-specific forms add new subscriptions to the relevant book list without a separate confirmation email. They do not automatically add you to the general Book News list.
MailerLite also keeps subscription status, signup source and group, signup and confirmation IP addresses, confirmation dates, country and detected timezone. It records unsubscribe status and the measured email opens and link clicks described below. Unsubscribing stops book-news emails while retaining the unsubscribe record.
You can unsubscribe using the unsubscribe link in book-news emails. MailerLite’s handling of information is described in its privacy policy.
MailerLite measures email opens using an invisible image and records clicks on links in book-news emails. These measurements help Tom understand reader interest. Open counts are approximate: some email services load images before a person reads the message. The welcome email uses open tracking and does not use Google Analytics UTM tagging. Subscriber and unsubscribe records are retained without a routine deletion schedule.
Technical logs and cookies
The website uses WordPress. Sign-in and administration functions use cookies. Embedded services can also use cookies and process technical information. Browser settings allow you to manage cookies, although blocking them can affect some functions.
WooCommerce’s order-attribution feature uses cookies with names beginning sbjs_ to record traffic sources, first and current visits, page views within a session, and browser and device information. These cookies can be set when you browse the website even without making a purchase. Most are session cookies. The sbjs_session cookie has a timed expiry; WooCommerce documents a default of 30 minutes.
Hostinger, the website’s hosting provider, records access-log information including request times, IP addresses, requested resources, browser and device details, inferred country, data size and response times.
The Redirection plugin is currently configured to record full IP addresses in redirect and page-not-found logs and retain those logs for one week. This helps diagnose broken links and routing problems.
The separate Ultimate Redirect plugin also logs attempted URLs, destinations or page-not-found results, dates, redirect types and counts. Logging is enabled and automatic log deletion is set to Never.
The website uses WooCommerce order-attribution and reporting features. Our prelaunch checks did not find a configured Google Analytics connection in the Site Kit or MonsterInsights settings reviewed. Embedded services may collect usage information under their own policies. We have not independently verified every source of visitor measurement on the redesigned website.
At launch, we had not independently verified the complete cookie inventory on newsletter pages, the cookie-blocking conditions in every reviewed browsing context, the precise purpose of every observed cookie, or the redesigned website’s cookie and consent behavior for visitors who are not signed in. This policy describes confirmed observations and provider information available at launch; it is not a complete inventory of all cookies or a guarantee that browser protections block all embedded-service cookies.
Third-party content and purchase links
Book pages include embedded YouTube videos. An embedded player can connect your browser to Google or YouTube before you start playback. Google describes cookies used for video features and preferences, session security, usage measurement and advertising, depending on your choices and settings. Some embedded-service cookies may be partitioned to this website, so browser third-party-cookie blocking does not necessarily prevent all such cookies. See Google’s cookie information for details. The general signup form loads MailerLite content from its servers before you submit the form. Links to Amazon and social platforms take you to services governed by their own privacy notices. Amazon purchase links may contain an affiliate identifier; the website displays an Amazon Associate disclosure.
Retention and privacy requests
Hostinger creates daily backups of the website and its database. Backup copies can contain information held in the website at the time the backup was made.
Hostinger retains hosting access logs and backup copies according to its applicable retention policies. Retention periods may vary by the type of record or backup and the hosting service.
Reader correspondence, subscriber records and unsubscribe records are retained without a routine deletion schedule. Unsubscribing stops book-news emails; it does not automatically delete the subscriber record.
For questions about this notice or requests concerning information you supplied, contact tommitsoff@eobs.biz.
To handle a request, Tom may ask you to verify control of your email address. He reviews your relevant reader correspondence, MailerLite subscription records and any applicable WordPress records, and considers relevant logs and backups separately. Access responses include only information relevant to you. Corrections and deletion requests are reviewed before changes are made. Unsubscribe records are retained to prevent further book-news emails. The request outcome, including any retained records or copies, is recorded.
